Friday Music

It's Friday. I need music. I'm starting the day off with Pink Floyd's The Wall, and then I'm finally going to spend a little time with John Coltrane. Beyond that?

I'm a pile of old bricks and a bucket of mortar.

Build me.

After listening to "The Wall" you really need to wake up.....I suggest "2 Morro Morro Land" by Lightning Bolt. One cannot get enough of the drum and bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!

geto boy: Kicking it now. I have to admit, I didn't realize The Commodores did this song.

paco: These guys were just in Morgantown a week or so ago, but I didn't go. Kicking "2 Morro Morro Land" now -- wow. Wow. This is pretty intense shit!

zee & raoul: I don't have either of those full albums, but I do have a "Best of...." album here. Sorry, I owe this band WAY more attention. I'm kicking "Alex Chilton" now, which is a cool and reminds me of The Lemonheads. (Okay, Lemonheads remind me of the Replacements.) And ya think Wilco listened to these guys? How about "Achin' to Be"?

anon: Punk it is. I'm kicking "Espanol" from Live in Portland now. Not a very good recording, but hey, this is punk, who cares? Interesting guitar.

I would love to help, but my dyslexic choices today are all over the place.

Last 6 songs I just listened to:

Bruce Springsteen : The River (early version)

Dead Kennedys : Holiday in Cambodia

Interpol : Evil

The Verve: Lucky Man

Iris DeMent: These Hills

Johnny Cash: The Ballad of Ira Hayes

I'm looking over at at Metallica's, Live at San Diego, 1992 next.

anon, aka Hattica: Wow, okay, I'll work on that list.

clash: What a great selection, you're a man after my own heart. I don't have that Iris song, but I love her, so I played her "I'm Still In Love With You" duet with Steve Earle, and followed it with one of her duets with the incomparable John Prine. I also have "Lucky Man," "Ira Hayes," and an early version of "The River." I spun them all and loved them.

How about Robbie Robertsons first solo effort, maybe 20 years old but its some good stuff.

Morning Sleek.

I'll go for Billy Bragg and Wilco singing the songs of Woody Guthrie.

There are two albums, I think.

Enjoy your weekend, mate.

Hi Sleekpelt, I wondered off here, following you from my universe. I see you are not alone on this blog.

Hello to all :-)

josh: I love The Band, and I remember a really good Robbie Robertson solo effort from the early-ish '90s that I used to like -- I'll have to check out his first.

winters: Mate, you like some good music. I love that collaboration and will play it on Monday.

missy: Welcome, Missy! Thanks for stopping by.
