Job Perks

My job can get intense at times, but it can also be extremely cool, thanks to some of the perks that come along with the gig. Take, for example, the nearly-two-months-pre-release copy of the Beastie Boys' new album that dropped on my desk yesterday. There are die-hard fans out there setting up tents at their local Amazon.com stores, eagerly awaiting this instrumental release, the B-Boys' first new album in years, and here it's being shipped off to me months ahead of schedule. What a perk!

Oh, yeah, I also just got an assignment that's sending me to Moscow in June to watch a bunch of guys on dirt bikes flip and write a road-trip story about it. I guess that's pretty cool too.

But the Beasties! Yes!

As you already know Sleek, I love The In Sounds From Way Out. How does this compare?

What the Beastie Boys really need is "Fight For Your Right To Party-2007 Subway Style Re-mix"

josh: I'll be waiting.

spooge: Man, you're always trying to corrupt me! You're gonna have to wait.

fleming: Sure.

eddie t: I do know that, pal. I'm so familiar with In Sounds and this is so new to me that I can't really compare them, but halfway through my second listen, I'd say this CD is really, really good.

zee: If they come out with it, I'll let you know a couple of months ahead of release if it's any good. ;)

i was on the Learning Channel the other day, for about a second. don't think I will be seeing any royalties, though.

Sleek...sometimes it pays to be a High Plains Drifter.

At this point in their career, the Beasties should only be putting out those instrumental albums. I love 'em, but their rapping is played out.

josh: If they'll make it beer, you've got me trumped.

raoul: "What came first? The chicken or the egg? First I ate the chicken, and then I ate his leg." That always cracked me up.

sombrero11: I'm totally with you there. I couldn't get into Hello Nasty at all, and they may have had another since then. I can't remember, and that's saying something.

Go back in the day to Paul's Boutique, on the other hand, and it's a different story. That's a freakin' a masterpiece.

Zee said...

I agree that Paul's Boutique was a damn, damn fine record.

Evening Sleekbelt.

I've been a fan of the Beasties since the early days. "Paul's Boutique" was a classic. And then the reinvention, and the brilliance that was "Check your Head."

Great stuff mate. Cheers.

RD: High Plains Drifter! Classic!

Okay, I really can't believe I haven't heard the damn thing and today was the second day you've had it. WTF? Bring it home "with your bad breath onion rings!".

Susan Chipley said...

RD: You should put Awesome I Fuckin' Shot That! on your Netflix queue. I haven't seen it yet myself, but damn I'm dying to!

SleekPelt said...

zee: And Ill Communication!

winters: And License to Ill!

dm: Sorry, I didn't realize you like the B-Boys. I'll bring it home.

SleekPelt said...

winters: They're playing Paris the day after I leave for Moscow -- I'm gonna have the pilot drop me off. See you there.

Susan Chipley said...

Sleek: I love communicating via your blog when we're sitting across the room from each other.

RD: As the years pass, your movie watching will drop off even more.

Fleming said...

wasn't me, Sleek. But, yea, I'm lovin' the album so far too.

SleekPelt said...

dm: Yeah, that's pretty sad.

josh: Hello, AA!

clash: Nice, my first Russian word! спасибо!

spooge & fleming: I'm liking it even more now. I'll post a better review of it after I've heard it a few more times.
