Christian Movies

Christian Slater, who was the epitome of cool to me when I was younger, starred in three of my favorite movies. Here are few scenes from them. Spoilers if you haven't seen them, obviously.

Heathers
This was my real introduction to Christian Slater. Raoul Duke and I adopted "Heather Chandler is one bitch that deserves to die" into our language.

Pump Up the Volume
I freaking love this movie and soundtrack. I found Leonard Cohen in this movie. Concrete Blonde and the Pixies too. The song is this clip rules.

True Romance
It's a top-5 movie for me, and this may be my favorite scene in any movie ever.

Right on, dude! Slater is the man. "Pump" is a great movie and a seriously cool soundtrack. I just recently watched "True Romance" again- decently cool. "Heathers" is decent too. But I only saw it a couple of times. He exudes Jack Nicholson cool. At one point, after Nic Cage, I wanted to be Slater. Two cool cats.
Thanks to you and the DM for a sweet time last night. We need to get together more often- and sooner.

True Romance written by Quentin Tarantino with Gary Oldman,Val Kilmer, Brad Pitt Dennis Hopper etc...The boy had arrived. He was clearly inspired by Jack but he has grown since then...Great movie, although it contains violence and shit like that. I have a rule I will kick a director’s ass that directs a movie that contains adult language or violence. No shit JW

Heathers is one of my favourites! "Dear Diary, my teen-angst bullshit now has a body count." It's so deadpan and funny. Pure genius. Here's to many more Slater-filled years!

oh no, the monster stirs, i have to take care of this ;)

the scene where Clarence goes to kill Alabama's pimp is one of the most intense scenes i have ever seen. The music in the background makes me pumped.

well done Sleek.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!

Fuck me gently with a chainsaw!!! I think I just died and went to heaven! DUDE... you have NO clue what the Slater means to me. I fell hard for him in the Legend of Billie Jean and then when I saw him + skateboard in Gleaming the Cube the obsession completely sunk in. I love him to a RI.DIC.ULOUS extent. It's truly a mad obsession and has been since I was 13 or so? And now I'm 34... yeah, I've got it BAD.

HEATHERS is my all-time favorite movie EVER.EVER.EVER. "Dear Diary: Heather told me she teaches people real life. She said, 'real life sucks losers dry. You want to fuck with the eagles, you have to learn to fly.' I said, 'so, you teach people how to spread their wings and fly?' She said, 'yes.' I said, 'you're beautiful.'"

"Our love is God. Lets go get a Slushie"

That clip you highlighted from PUMP put me into a complete frenzy this morning (I'm gonna need alone time after this...ooooof) Best line from the movie - "I'm dedicating this unusual song to an unusual person who makes me feel kind of... unusual." (I'd make him feel kind of unusual... no doubt about it.

TRUE ROMANCE is a FANTASTIC movie =) I've seen it at least 50 times and the scene when he's shot on the floor and Alabama's begging him not to die on her sends me into a crying fit EVERY.TIME. Such an awesome movie.

Amid the chaos of that day,
when all I could hear
was the thunder of gunshots...
and all I could smell
was the violence in the air,
I look back and am amazed...
that my thoughts
were so clear and true--
that three words went through
my mind endlessly,
repeating themselves
like a broken record.

"You're so cool.
You're so cool.
You're so cool."

Slates is so fucking beautiful.
THANK YOU for this post. Truly.

You have my endless gratitude =)

Love,
Mrs. Slater

"I love my dead gay Son".

I've always thought Christian Slater had the potential to be a Troll.

geto boy: We're so stoked you guys came over. Be sure to check Chez Mama for a little recap of the evening.

josh: It does have loads of violence, but it's also oozing with romance.

teoh: I haven't seen any recent Slater movies. Any I should watch?

~d: Then you said: "I had to come all the way from the highway and byways of Tallahassee, Florida to MotorCity, Detroit to find my true love. If you gave me a million years to ponder, I would never have guessed that true romance and Detroit would ever go together. And til this day, the events that followed all still seems like a distant dream. But the dream was real and was to change our lives forever. I kept asking Clarence why our world seemed to be collapsing and things seemed to be getting so shitty. And he'd say, "that's the way it goes, but don't forget, it goes the other way too." That's the way romance is... Usually, that's the way it goes, but every once in a while, it goes the other way too."

rd: It is. Thanks, my brother.

valyna: That might be the most enthusiastic comment ever on RtN. I liked Christian a great deal, but I was a little more partial to ~d's pal Samantha Mathis. She reminded me of a girlfriend from camp.

artful sub: Welcome! You seem to be the authority on the matter, so I'll take your word for it.

Susan Chipley said...

sleek: Huh? I didn't know you had a girlfriend at camp! As for the Slater movies...I love them too. Classics.

rd: I'm with you on the pimp-killing scene.

One of Tarantino’s best. That movie rules!

When I was in high-school, girls used to tell me that I looked like Christian Slater.

Yes, I milked it for all it was worth.

I can recite dialogue along with True Romance. Brilliant fuckin' movie.

SleekPelt said...

rob: I can totally see that.

He was also good in that dumb ass mob movie years ago where he played Lucky Luciano.

His mom is a big-time casting director in Hollywood, I still see her name in a lot of big movies.

Valyna-Stop it, you're scaring me.

Zee said...

He was also in a terrible movie called 'Gleaning the Cube'in the late 80s/early 90s. He payed a skater-punk who solves his brother's murder. Terrible.

"I love my dead gay son!" - Heathers

Dude, True Romance...one of the baddest movies ever. Brad "Floyd" Pitt hitting the honey bear, a pre "Soprano's" Ray Gondolfini, Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, and the meanest Gary Oldman character of ALL-TIME!!! Eating chinese food, and shining that light in his eyes before going ape shit! WOE?!

His performance in this ALMOST makes up for his incredibly weak role in Robin Hood: Prince of thieves.

All the same, I tried my hardest to get my hair to look like his when I was in middle/high school.

Zee said...

Hattica: Gary Oldman was in that Kevin Costner Robbin Hood movie???

SleekPelt said...

dm: I'm sure I'd mentioned that to you once or twice before.... ;)

zee: How wrong they would be in the end.

clash: More truth from my man Clash.

matthes: Judging by how many times you've suggested Tragically Hip on Friday Music, I'd say you've got a little obsession going on yourself!

valyna: I loved your reaction, Mrs. Slater.

zee: I've never seen that entire movie. And I probably won't.

hattica: You tried to get your hair to look like Robin Hood's?

Zee and Sleek: I forgot to refer back to SL8R after speaking of G. Oldman.

I was going for the perfect skater SL8R hip dip hair cut.

I think he plays the brother in Robin Hood. Very weak indeed. Not a good place for his Nicholsonesque on-liners.

Hollow Man 2 --- a direct-to-video crapfest starring Mr. Slater --- was on Bravo last night.

Not a good film.

When I run Hollywood, I am going to ban the trend of sequels in name only.

Slater!.......Chriiiiiiistian.

Sorry to hijack, but don't forget the other Christian, Mr. Bale. "The Machinist" and "American Psycho." Jeepers!
