I've wanted to do a band-names post for a while now. My questions are:
1. What do you think is the best band name of all time?
2. What would your band name be? (If you're actually in a band, pick a new band name.)
I'll comment with my answers.

1. Karma to Burn
2. The Old Factory Nerves
1. The Vertebrats or Spacemen 3
2. Beaten Hearts (get it?)
1. Some friends local band R.U.L.E. (Really Underskilled Losers from Elkins).
2. Unreasonably Reasonable
1) Hmm... tough call. Are we talking 'best' as in 'I love it because it's so bad?'
There could be a few. Like the 'Test Icicles' or 'Wow, Owls!'
2) The Defense Mechanisms
Hey, inarticulate fumblings, The Defense Mechanisms is a great name! I'm surprised no-one has used it yet.
1. Best names: Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead is fun to say, and Scissor Sisters tells you exactly what the band is all about. I like alliteration.
2. My names: I always liked Mitosis, but apparently there's already a band with that name. I then considered The Okazaki Fragments, but that's taken as well. How about Phytochrome, or The Telomeres?
Best band name: "Van Halen" I mean, what sounds cooler than Van Halen? It just sounds like pure rock and roll to me.
If I had a band it would be called: Hattica. Nobody knows what it means (but me)and it looks and sounds odd.
Second choice would be: "Piston Head"
rob: I get it and I like it.
geto boy: You went the oxymoron route.
IF: Whatever you want. I chose Karma to Burn because I really think it's an awesome name. It matched them well -- they were very heavy. Great instrumental metal band. Check out Defense Mechanisms.
teoh: That band cites Depeche Mode and Joy Division as influences, so you may want to follow that link. I expected scientific names from you, excellent.
hattica: Yeah, I guess that really is a great band name. Hattica seems like a good name for a black metal band.
Well, of course Karma to Burn is in my top two. The other is Law Biting Citizens, another local Morgantown (former) band. I'm not sure which I like better, but if forced to choose, I think it would be K2B.
The Dead Milkmen
The Nipple Erectors
The Mr. T Experience
Audioslave
Rage Against The Machine
Dillinger Escape Plan
Talking Heads
Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza
My Chemical Romance
The Velvet Underground
Sex Pistols
The Dead Kennedys
Bowling For Soup
I like the name "New Directions" because if you say it fast it sounds like Nude Erections.
Tee Hee.
melissavina: Mike Hunt could open for them. Hahahahaha!
valyna: What would your band name be?
melissavina: Classic!
dm: It better not!
DM: Har!
Mine would be called, "Who Sings That?"
Probably already taken though.
Best: Racer X, of course! My friend's dad had a band named Conscious Pilot, which I thought was cool, too.
Mine: Cellar Door
Bad Brains
My band would be:From this day to the ending of the world
Dali Mama,
Good call. And opening for Mike Hunt could be Jenna Talia and the Shavers.
I see a festival happening here. A naughty naughty festival!!
melissavina: Gah! Hahahahahaha!
clash: You could be a Who cover band.
bad billy: How could I forget Racer X?
josh: You could open for And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, and the bill would say From This Day Until the Ending of the World / And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. I saw the latter in San Diego once and they rocked.
melissavina: Billy Zweiner's band would easily get a gig at the festival.
From this day to the ending of the world was a line from Henry V the bard created the speach nearly 200 years after Saint Crispens Day Speach
the part I stole is and not so original a plagerist as I thought, I was on a we few, we happy few obsessive jaunt but thought that was to easy so I looked up the speech and found this gem...Love this speech...
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
