Pick My Music

Once again, I'm looking for some music suggestions to get me through the week. (Toilets, I still need to kick The Dead -- I'll get on that this afternoon. I went to five Dead shows and got into three of them, including Jerry's last Pittsburgh show with the truly magical rain set. To this day it's one of the top concert experiences of my life.)

In case anyone's interested, Bright Eyes released a new one on Tuesday, and it's awesome. Hey, Zee, remember that time you saw him play in Philly before he was anybody? Didn't you love that show?

Honestly, I just saw Iggy & The Stooges last night and I can't really think straight about other stuff right now. I will get back to you on my suggestion for a music pick.

Hells yeah, I remember that show. I liked it about as much as Shawn did.

I am here to promote Travels with Roscoe available for purchase on my blog, finally the Great American Novel! I like The Carpenters.

Yes, Rob, Bright Eyes. I'm well aware of your disdain for "emo" music, but I hold no such prejudice against any complete genres of music. At the very least perhaps you'll find comfort in knowing that my musical tastes are extremely varied, and I also love many of the albums you mentioned on your 50 Excellent Albums blog post.

Zee: Nice, Iggy and the Stooges it is. Thanks for the unintentional suggestion.

what's "emo" music?

I'm not exactly sure, but the members of Jukebox Zeros don't like it, and I'm pretty sure Bright Eyes falls squarely into that genre. I think it's sort of indie-pop, maybe?

Here's  the wikipedia entry on emo. Lots of music to not like.

oh that clears it up. to use the term "emo" according to Wikipedia, Bright Eyes is in the same genre as AFI and Fallout Boy. i love wikipedia.

i checked them out. pretty cool. he's such a handsome young man. if only he'd cut that hair. he has such a beautiful face, he should let the whole world see it.

but...

he's dark. forbidding. a fruitless search for lost baggage that he keeps locked away inside his soul until the time comes to explode.

BOOM !!!!!!!

ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, Bright Eyes.

Lots of music to like too, DM. Cursive? Domestica is freaking brilliant.

The Iggy Pop station on Pandora is excellent. Nice way to spend the afternoon.

Rob, were you one of the unfortunate souls who went to the Bright Eyes show in Philly at my suggestion back in the day?

Wait a minute....I think Rob did go to that show!! Or maybe it was Joey. I just remember the last few songs of the set with all of us lined up at the bar pounding beer and wondering what in the hell just happened.

I will also point out that Rob and I saw Eliot Smith at that same venue years before he was known. There were about 15 people there. That was an impressive show. He was a talented songwriter. Now he's dead. Sad.

Totally thrilled that you're diggin' the Iggy stuff.

In case anyone's interested, here's the amazing Dead show I saw in '95 at Three Rivers. It was the last time I ever saw them, I believe. That was a good year, 1995.

Note the media player in the upper-right corner of that page. No need to download the files.

have to take up for Bright Eyes. I was a hater for a while, but if you give his albums a chance, especially I'm Awake Its Morning, his lyrics are some of the best I have ever heard. Enough of that...

how about Kings of Leon
a little rock from Tennessee for your ass.

My "lots of music to not like" comment meant that anyone who said they didn't like "emo" (as defined by wikipedia) is making a gross generalization.

Raoul: I like Kings of Leon. I created a Pandora station today, and there's some good stuff on here.

DM: Gotcha. Like all genres, there's good and bad.

Josh, I won't listen to the Carpenters (probably), but I did buy Travels with Roscoe.

Hey Sleek:

I share what ever we share.

I got to see 6 shows of that 95 tour. I was too exhausted to go to the last two in Chicago, now I regret that.

I guess we lost another today with Kurt Vonnegut. He went to school with my dad and hung out at the Red Key round the corner from Joshies house. We should plan a meeting there next year at the Indy show.

ALso while I'm being serious, go to Josh"s blog, My Mule and check out the book he is helping promote. It's cheap and will make you smile and that makes Roscoe smile.

Long live the souls with soul

Hey Sleek and your extended blog family:

Thank you for buying Roscoe's book, the story about the Angry Amish is funny! Ole Roscoe sure needs our help and every book sold warms his heart.

Your copy should be there in a few day's, if you enjoy it, please encourage your friends to buy one.

I'll tell you about Roscoe some time, but for now just know you are doing a good thing.

Thankee
