Friday Music

It's Friday. (Almost.) I need music. I'm a hunk of wet clay on a pottery wheel. You're Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.

Mold me.

I visited Ireland IN 99 saw David Gray in concert, when his White Ladder CD came out, great show, met the band in the music store the next day, they autographed a couple of CD it was the theme music the rest of the trip, that and Guinness.

josh: I'm starting off with Edith Piaf, loud. My god she's something else.

I've got White Ladder here and it's next. Very nice suggestion.

Boy, my office sure is quiet today.

Fleming said...

Eerily quiet compared to yesterday. I feel as if I should be worried being so close to Bowyer when he is this quiet.

And it's the White Stripes for me today. I heard Icky Thump yesterday for the first time.

Peter Bjorn & John making the rounds on Sirius' Nordic channel and The Spectrum lately. Quirky indie sounds....Anon

fleming: Just spun a Loretta Lynn song that she did with Jack White -- that's all I've got in the way of WS.

anon: A couple of weeks ago I actually downloaded a podcast of Peter and Bjorn -- 2 of the 3 -- that they did on KCRW a of weeks ago. Didn't know anything about them; it was a complete whim. Kicking it now, thanks.

raoul: Okay, I'm gonna jam it up after Peter and Bjorn do their thing.

Now we're getting somewhere.

I know I promised I would post you some music today, but how am I supposed to tell you what to listen to when it's you that tells ME what to listen to?
So if you want to listen to your own recommendations, start off with a Universal Honey station on Pandora, and then finish it off with a little Lily Allen. I always laugh when I hear her say, Good dancer Love, but you should've worn a bra.

raoul: I'm afraid I've yet to find bliss in bluegrass music, but these guys are certainly extraordinary and this show is very impressive. I'm enjoying it ... but still feeling for the bliss.

RomDdly: It's about time. Welcome, welcome. Didn't you tell me about Universal Honey? I'll kick both suggestions momentarily, thanks.

to each his own, my brother. I will say they are the best musicians I have (probably) ever seen in my life. At least the fastest fingers. The general vibe of their shows if so much fun and Jeff Austin, the lead singer and mando player is by far the funniest banter I have heard between songs at a live show. Freaking hilarious. they are playing Masontown again this year. You and DM should hit em up.

Its time for you to check out The Hellacopters.

Edward Teach said...

Hmm how about some Spoon or Ok GO.

Fleming said...

Zee: are they hellagood? sorry.

I've been listening to the Black Keys too today.

SleekPelt said...

Zee: Checking out the Hellacopters now. The drums in "By the Grace of God" sound like a helicopter in places. Sounds great so far and -- whoa -- a real, honest-to-god guitar solo!

ed: Love Spoon! Freakin' love 'em. They're up next.

Sleek, i think i told you this but next week is your week in SF for live music.

Thursday: Elvis Costello
Friday: Bright Eyes w/ Jim James
Sunday: Joseph Arthur w/ Stars of
of Track and Field.

not to shabby. Now go get your plane ticket.

Susan Chipley said...

RD: I know you have front row seats for the Elvis Costello show.

SleekPelt said...

Raoul: The king, the prince, and the court jester. My head would explode with delight.

Mama: He's counting the minutes.

SleekPelt said...

By the way, my buddy who saw that show with us last week said the Stars of Track and Field CD is actually pretty bad. They kicked butt live, though.

DM- that is too funny. Don't think I will be making it to "the King of Rock and Roll" show.

I am however considering going to Joseph Arthur or Bright Eyes. JA is $15 but on a "school night". BE is at my favorite all time outside venue but is 45 bucks. Either show I would have to fly solo and shaft Mom into doing all the baby work. Not a great chance of it happening.

The Dalai Lama is actually speaking today and tomorrow in SF. But I would rather see you and Sleek in person. so about those plane tickets..... ;)

Evening, Sleekpelt. Here's a few i've been enjoying lately mate.

Have a good friday.

Neil Young - Ohio (live version)
Crosby, Still, Nash and Young - Horse with no name
Bob Dylan - Blind Willie Mctell

SleekPelt said...

winters: Great suggestions to finish my week, mate, thanks much. I'm going to assume you're referring to Neil Young's live CD from Massey Hall in 1971, which is one of my favorite CDs right now. I'm kicking "Ohio" as I type. I have America's "Horse With No Name," but my CSNY collection is very weak, sadly. My Dylan collection is huge but I don't think I have "Blind Willie" -- what album is that from?

Anonymous said...

I don't know the "America" version. I'll check it out.

Blind Willie Mctell is on the "Bootleg series Vol 1-3) which came out as a box set in '91.

A great song.

SleekPelt said...

winters: I got the Bootleg Box Set back when it came out, but I fell in love with the first CD so much that I'm afraid I neglected the second two CDs. I later sold the CDs, most likely so I could afford to eat that day. I'll have to track "Blind Willie" down at your suggestion. To this day, Bob's recording of the traditional "Moonshiner" on the first CD is possibly my favorite Dylan song of all time.

Pure poetry...

And as far as music goes, your profile looks amazingly similar to my CD collection so I'm not sure what more I can add to that. However, I did discover someone on Myspace one day and ordered his CD that afternoon. He's unsigned right now but I think he's fantastic... and he really needs to pay me for being his promoter for all the new fans I've given this guy since I found him ;)

JOHN WEST

Some other options that might fit you according to your profile... LOW, Throwing Muses and Morphine.

Thanks for stopping by :) And don't be afraid of me... I don't bite TOO hard ;)

I love when Friday music spills over into next week. Love it!

valyna: Hello, and welcome. I love Morphine and I'm not sure why I neglected to put them in my profile. I'll check out Throwing Muses and LOW today. I visited John West's MySpace page earlier and listened to his stuff -- I enjoyed it, and his mid-song banter made me laugh. Thanks for the suggestion.
