A Space for Entertaining

You know what drives me nuts? On those home-improvement shows, why does everyone always have to call rooms spaces? ALWAYS. Even when they already said the name of the room.

"I really like this kitchen space. It's got lots of room for entertaining."

Which brings me to entertaining. I can't believe the amount of entertaining that goes on in these people's homes. I usually just have friends over, personally.

In my world, a space for entertaining is called a stage. And if I hadn't recently developed an apparent allergy to alcohol, I'd be down with playing the Spaces Drinking Game. "Ooh, this is a great space." Glug glug glug. "We'd really have fun entertaining in this outdoor space." Double-whammy, glug glug glug glug glug glug.

I guess I wouldn't make a very good interior designer.

the only entertaining C and I do about our "space" is to use extremely colorful language as we trip over Sage's toys in our home box.

lol that's true! :)
You'd need a complete language-wash to make it.

As long as my space for entertaining has clean lines, I'm all good! (WTF are clean lines? I mean, I know what they mean, but do people have to constantly say they want clean lines in their space?)

rd: Now that you're entertaining the wee one, you could definitely use a little more space in your space.

dm: I probably need one of those anyway.

dm: How could I forget the clean lines?

Hmm. Valid point, but I guess it would be dumb to say "kitchen room."

The word "area," sounds to vague, so I guess "space" works as "cordoned portion of a three-dimensional home."

I guess if you dine in the den in front of the tube like I do, that's a continuation of my "kitchen space."

Clean lines I think means "uncluttered surfaces." Yeah, good luck with that. I can barely find my keyboard on my desk.

helen: I agree -- kitchen doesn't need space or room. It's just a kitchen.

I guess I just call my clean lines "uncluttered". And I'm sort of a freak about it, so I guess I have lots of clean lines going on.

Questioning space? As a contractor I shall abstain from this business.

i have a similar reaction when people call clothing items "pieces". "oh now, wow...what a lovely piece" .... or "what an excellent piece to add to your collection." fuuuuuuck.

Ewwww. "Pieces?" Yeah. That's bad. Although, I have some t-shirts that I wear around the house, and they're so old that they could actually pass for "pieces" of cloth. LOL

geto boy: Excellent use of business, pal. Thanks!

vesper: Wow, that offends my senses. Is it us or is it them?

dm: I have an endless supply of T-shirts, so you definitely wear those pieces by choice!

Here is an important piece of writing.

erin: You know what? That's really freaking good.

Maybe not. It's been over a year since it was published and not one peep from Rowe.

He probably just didn't get it, though. And you even kind of spelled out the point of the piece at the end.

Or maybe you really do just want to jump his bones and I'm the one who doesn't get it.
