Friday Music

It's Friday. I need music.

I don't think I'm going to do these every Friday anymore, but today is a good day for it. I'm starting the day off with Colin MacIntyre's newest masterpiece, released Tuesday: The Water.

Been obsessed with Neil Young's ZUMA record lately. Here's the opening track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snRmGY1cLCI

Unfortunately, I could only find a mediocre live video. Do yourself a favor; buy the record.

rob: Great song, but yeah, the recording is so-so. I've got a couple of iTunes gift certs lying around, and Neil is my boy, so maybe I'll hit up Zuma. Thanks!

That acoustic performance of "Be My Savior" is awesome. Go here and listen to some BR549.

So, I was watching "Eli Stone" on abc.com, and during the beginning of the episode I could barely hear this song. I really liked it. I found out who it was. It sounds familiar. DM: was it in JUNO?

The dancers in the video are nice.

anon: Oh, it's not going away altogether -- I'd never hear from you again! There might just be some week's where I have to opt out is all. Awesome, awesome Ray song. I love that guy's voice, but he also tends to put me to sleep. I love this upbeat number.

dm: Great band. I'm really feelin' the good country these days. Too bad the shite is the stuff that sells.

olive: I really want to like Iron and Wine, but like Ray Lamontagne, they tend to put me to sleep. This is probably my favorite of their songs I've heard.

dalyn: You've got a deal -- you'll sub for me next, yes? You'd be excellent at it. I'm going to listen to your songs now and I'll comment asap.

dalyn: How could I stop Friday Music with submissions like this? Great stuff. Bonnie "Prince" Billy -- I've heard of this guy but haven't heard much of his stuff. I really dig this; Ron Sexsmith -- I'm a huge fan of this guy. I've got a few of his albums. One of Canada's finest; The Dears -- I've got these guys all loaded up on my iPod too, and I love this song. I'd never seen the (retro) video before; The Whitest Boy Alive -- this music caused a family dance to break out in our kitchen. I'm exhausted now, but it was well worth it.

Great suggestions this week, guys. Friday Music is still open, so if anyone is late and would like to keep it going, hit me up. Thanks!

olives: That song does sound very familiar to me, but I can't find it on the Juno soundtrack. I like the song, and I like the dancing. You need to get into some dance classes! You know you want to. :)

No more Friday music?! Are you insane? Yeah, let dalyn sub next week's set - shall we do it to a theme again? The Whitest Boy Alive was cool.

Supergrass: Alright - because I was in the mood for some fun mid-90s BritPop, okay?

Of Montreal: Gronlandic Edit - nobody else can make gloomy lyrics fit such an upbeat melody like Of Montreal can.

INXS: The Gift - from their 1993 album 'Full Moon, Dirty Hearts'. And quite a stomper it is, too.

Leftfield: Release The Pressure - so I've gathered that dance music (and electronica in general) ain't big in WV, but I'll give it another shot.

Richard Hawley: Serious - get his album 'Lady's Bridge'. You won't be sorry you did; every second is gorgeous.

Oh, and getto, Afroman is the business!

geto boy: The old-school rap was perfect. I knew we were on to something as soon as "Fantastic Voyage" started kicking. We dug all of these tracks, including Too Short, which is semi-new to us.

teoh: I love Supergrass! That song has been overplayed on some TV commercial recently, but it's a good one regardless. Of Montreal is so fun -- I usually spin them in moderation, but I have fun while it's on. This song is new to me, and the video is insane. I wonder who would win in a sonic battle, Ween or Of Montreal? I've always liked INXS, but I've never heard this one. It is a stomper! The Leftfield is actually pretty cool. Not sure I'd infer too much about West Virginia from my tastes. I love the Richard Hawley -- I'll definitely be picking that up. Thanks! (He said business.)
