Loved the Bill Watterson's work. I know he quit with enough money for the disciplined person, but I wonder what he is doing these days. He made enough money without the merchandising so he is set and as Humphrey Bogart called it, his "FY" money and can draw or say almost anything he thinks, almost. But is he working under a pen name is he working or just watching the sea in the Caymans?

I loved "Calvin and Hobbes!" Probably my most favorite behind "Bloom County" by Berkeley Breathed, and before "Mutts" by Patrick McDonnell.

Great comic strip. Smart, funny, and sentimental.

The comic strip is a lost art.

josh: I listened to that podcast -- pretty cool. What a story Watterson is. He managed to completely retain his privacy while creating bona fide American pop culture.

geto boy: Calvin and Hobbes made me laugh harder than any other comic strip. The only thing that compares for me is early Peanuts stuff.

rob: I don't even really read comic strips any more. There must be some good mainstream stuff ... or is there not?

C & H was truly funny. But why did Calvin insist on taking a piss on Chevy trucks,or something? Or was is Fords?

valyna: You and me both, Valyna. I love him and miss him so.

zee: In that podcast that Josh linked to, the dude interviews Watterson's mom, and she says that he has never approved any kind of commercial product. She said all of the stickers, t-shirts, etc. are just illegal knock-offs. (I know you were joking, but I thought this was another interesting thing about him).

There aren't many things in this world that I want, but the complete Calvin and Hobbes collection is one of them.
