Motorcycle PSA

It's Spring, so more and more motorcycles are on the road. If you drive, please watch for us.

as a former speechwriter for the DoT, I know that motorcyclists are 26 times more likely to die in a motor vehicle crash.

I dunno. I think the onus is really on you guys to be careful since you're taking the risk.

w/ so many dumb bitches driving huge hokin' SUVs while on yakking on the phone, y'all are crazy! Every guy I know who rides has taken a spill at least once.

m@: Anybody who gets on a motorcycle and doesn't take it upon himself or herself to stay alive is looking to die. I try to assume that everyone is on a cell phone, that somebody is blowing through every stop light, and long ago I accepted that risk as my own. That said, I'm very comfortable reminding people who don't ride that there are those of us who do.

I ride and I mostly ride in the woods, which keeps me very alert, yes trees do not move but what is hidden beneath the leaves and such will make me move into the very stationary trees.
I put on helmet and gear for street rides and probably pay more attention than I do during a trail ride, there are some very blind drivers out there. I ran into a car on my bicycle a few years ago, the car ran a red light.
Driving is dangerous, today I saw another two seater ultra fuel efficient car, small and not much safer than a motorcycle if it is at all.
Something else to think about is the grain industry being used to provide fuel for the large safe vehicles that so often kill the motorcyclists. These monsters burn, gas, diesel, bio-diesel as well as ethanol. Already the third world countries are concerned about starvation because the grain they use for food is being sold to create fuel for these large safe vehicles. So what we are doing is starving the poor, so the rich can drive large cars which kill motorcyclists with great efficiency and the poor they ignore the fact that they are being killed slowly by the big safe cars.

I will watch for you... because we get more points for hitting a motorcycle than a pedestrian!!!

Sorry, slipped into Death Race 2000 mode.

My Dad is a biker and has been for as long as I can remember. He has had lots of friends die from accidents that were no fault of their own. It is very important to watch for motorcycles on the road.

With that said, some of the jack asses that ride these crotch rockets going 95 mph weaving in and out of traffic deserve to be hung up by their toenails and beaten in the balls with a spoon until their nose bleeds!

m@: I don't think Sleek, or the PSA he posted, said that cyclists shouldn't be careful. Of course riding a motorcycle carries risks, just as operating any motor vehicle does. By your logic, if I strap my kids into their carseats and venture out, it's my fault if someone hits me and kills or hurts my kids because I made the choice to engage in something that I know carries risks? That makes no sense at all. That's called blaming the victim.

My hub rides, and I fret when he does. So, I think I may nick the photo and stick it on my blog.

Hub has begged me to ride with him (as a passenger). I'm scared shitless. Not of him, but of the other MO-rons out there.

juanuchis: Welcome! Nick away, please. While it's true that there are a lot of idiots on the road, common sense and defensiveness on the motorcycle goes a long way.
