Friday Music

It's Friday. I need music.

Everything is off. Complete sensory deprivation. Pitch black, numb. Nothing to smell. Nothing to taste. I hear nothing.

Wait ... a sound! A note! More notes! I'm starting to make it out. Is it ... could it be ... William Shatner "singing" Blur? Is this happening?

It is. I seem to see something move in front of me. I feel a cool breeze dance across my face. What's that smell? Oranges. And there's a slight ... metallic taste.

With every song I hear, the rest of my senses come back, and I'm once again completely alive.

Bring me back to life.

the only song I know the title to off hand is Young Folks (the whistling song), but I just got done watching a Peter Bjorn and John concert on Freeview and it was great. I highly recommend all the songs although I've yet to look them up myself.

Sometimes bad rap can be so retro and cheesy that its great. Let the robot dance bring you back to life.

I have been enjoying Jack Johnson as of late.

josh: Man, I'm not having any luck finding that one!

fleming: This is the third time Peter, Bjorn and John have been suggested on a Friday Music post. Good stuff, I'm kicking it now.

anon: Dude was running a castro cap long before they were in style. Bad rap can definitely be fun, much like bad horror movies can.

geto boy: I'll spin Jack Johnson after the Swedes.

Quiet day at RtN. After Jack Johnson, if I get no other suggestions, I'm going to listen to Joss. Ah, Joss.

mom: I wish Josh happy trails, and I wish I was riding along with him. I'll just have to follow along on his blog.

Now, Loretta Lynn.

Picked up a copy of new book "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead - the Harsh Life and Dirty Times of Warren Zevon" recently. Compiles stories of the life of a way under-rated songwriter and genius. Has me listening again to an amazing talent. "Desperadoes Under the Eaves" and "Carmelita" well shine a spotlight on the dark recesses of an addled mind, and "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" is an incredible tune. Great stuff.

chud: Welcome back! Warren Zevon does rule. He's so much more than "Werewolves of London," but unfortunately most people don't know that. I believe I saw him in Philly with Brian Zee, if I'm not mistaken. I'll kick some Zevon now, Chud, great suggestion.

chud: You might find this interesting.

Right you are about that, Sleek. I was thinking about that show when Zevon passed away. Really glad I got to sww him. If memory serves me correctly, it was a pretty big arena show that a local radio station sponsored for its 30th anniversary or something. Jeffrey Gaines opened up, and the headliners were some classic rock band (Bad Company, maybe?) with Journey's Neil Schon on guitar. I still remember how terrible Schon's guitar tone was.

mom: Josh has suggested that tune to me before, and I have it on my computer. I'll spin it at work tomorrow in his honor.

zee: rob zero and I talked about this today. Jethro Tull was there too. I've hated them ever since.
