Addictions

My pal Jeff has a great blog at Cigarettes and Coffee. If you haven't checked it out, I suggest you do. He often writes about comics and video games, but his mind wanders from time to time, and his latest post is about his current addictions.

If anyone knows where to get peppermint-stick ice cream in New York, could you let Jeff know?

I don't know about peppermint ice cream but I do know you could put Cholula on a dried turd and it would taste good, or if not good better.

Dude, it's Friday - where's the music? I'd be glad to host here on RtN again if you're a bit busy. Pick one of my suggested themes:
∙ music by artists we'll never get to see live (i.e. they broke up or overdosed);
∙ boys who wear makeup and girls who play guitars;
∙ songs with black-and-white music videos

Help me out here, Sleek! We're jonesing for some fresh tunes!

teoh: You're a good man, Charlie Brown!

When I asked my wife for a good black-and-white video, she mentioned this one.

Go figure

clash: good one! Helena Christensen and Chris Isaak doing the whole From Here To Eternity thing, all to some great twangy guitar. Your wife has exquisitely good taste.

TEOH- 1)Tough one- can't think of any bands that we'll never see live.
2) Prince won't allow any audio on Youtube ??? so this is all I could come up with,
3) http://youtube.com/watch?v=fi5S5G6rbsA

Clash- kudos to the missus on an excellent selection.

Black and white. (My first thought was the Chris Isaak tune, but alas, Mrs. Clash beat me to it!)

Here's some guitar girls, but the boy has no make-up on in this one. He does, however, have on a white suit and appears to be exceptionally wasted.

It's a damn shame nobody will ever see him live again.

Oh, and Sleek left for a weekend of fishing in the mountains on Thursday. I thought he had made Friday Music arrangements, but I guess not.

getto: I have often searched You Tube for Prince videos as well, but did enjoy the Material Issue tune. Leave it to the eccentric Prince to be different just because…. BTW, he turns 50 this year! Damn, I’m getting old.

teoh: Wicked Game is still a badass video! Did you ever see The Chris Issak Show series on Showtime that aired several years ago? Good show and he is as cool as the other side of the pillow.

dm: I always seem to find even more genius in Buckley’s music every time I hear it. It is sad that his brilliant light was prematurely extinguished.

I can never hear enough Radiohead and it has been a while since I heard that one.

Wow! Joseph Arthur looked like he was channeling about three different spirits during that song and they were all hammered. Har!

Hope Sleek brings the family home some dinner.

getto: Ooh, Valerie Loves Me, haven't heard that in simply ages! B&W videos were über-cool in the early 90s, and everyone was wearing sunglasses.

the dm: Woah, that's pretty cool. Thom Yorke gives my mother nightmares (she's a late-night MTV addict). I now know why. Joseph Arthur - never heard of him. Does that make me uncouth? Interesting performance, though. Jeff Buckley, requiescat in pace.

clash: nope, sorry. The only Showtime stuff that I remember from South African TV was stuff like Stargate SG-1, Dexter, Weeds, Fat Actress and The Red Shoe Diaries. Oh dear.

Now it's my turn:

Shooting Star. Jimi Hendrix: All Along The Watchtower - I was born too late. No-one will ever match him.

Eyeliner Boy. Boy George: Bow Down Mister - he's a very underrated songwriter. A little bit of lipstick actually suits him...

Guitar Girl. PJ Harvey: A Perfect Day Elise - although she doesn't grip the instrument in this video, she remains the personification of a rock-chick. Her balls are much bigger than mine.

Black & White. Erasure: Rock Me Gently - it tears my heart at 1:28 when the bass kicks in. Every time. Plus, Sleek now probably expects me to add a little Erasure to the mix by now.

teoh: Erasure, nice! That brings back some memories.

Hendrix’s celestial sound is one that would be on my dream list too. I find some of the interviews from his prime very interesting. His recluse nature is in stark contrast to his commanding stage presence, but his wit and awareness were also evident.

I almost broke out some Boy George – Kharma Kameleon on Sleek’s animal topic, but I thought the reptile thing was pushing the envelope. Har! He is so much more than his popular stereotypical caricature and your song suggestion illustrates that.

My mistake- I wasn't thinking properly. Regarding artists that I never will be able to see I would have to say Elvis and Jerry Garcia.

What a punk I am! Sorry I didn't get Friday Music up last week -- I forgot to do it before I left and didn't have an opportunity to get online again. The real bummer is, Rob Zero was standing by to guest host for me, so I blew it. He's guesting this Friday instead.

Teoh, thanks for taking care of business over here -- it's nice to know I can count on you. I'll be spending my afternoon spinning everyone's suggestions. And I'll take you up on your offer to guest host again here very soon.

By the way, Prince videos can be found here.

Sleek! No problem - I quite enjoy it. And I'll be glad to host two weeks from now.

Sleek:

I look forward teoh's Friday, and thanks for the Prince link. Just spent about 30 minutes catching up.

We all want to know......Did you catch any damn fish? :)

SleekPelt said...

clash: I caught three trout. Two were little and one was about average sized. I got one of the small ones on a fly rod and the other two on a spinner. I'm not much of a fisherman, I'm afraid -- I go to hang out with my brothers in the mountains, not to fish. We could just hang at the cabin the whole time and I'd be just as happy.
