It's Friday. I need music.
I'm a shapeless mass trapped in a red plastic egg. Free me and flatten me against the comic-strip likeness of your soul.

Let's rock some Nirvana. Wait till I get there, though!
I will be out of pocket on Friday so I’ll throw up a few tonight.
Nerds rule!

The wife suggested this tune that’s been in her head all day.

Hello, Sleek.
John Lee Hooker and Santana, "Chill out" and "the Healer."
Have a good weekend, mate.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll get on this stuff today. In the meantime, I've responded to last week's Friday Music suggestions.
How 'bout a lil R.L. BURNSIDE?
Poor Black Mattie

Here are some tunes, camp and strange, that I always enjoy.
Franz Ferdinand The Fallen
Talking Heads Blind
KLF Justified and Ancient
Recoil Jezebel
Goldfrapp Strict Machine
i've been into James Taylor for the last 5 days. well, ever since i found a cd in my car which i don't know where it came from...my favs..."Something in the Way She Moves Me", "You've Got a Friend", and of course "Carolina in My Mind" and "Fire and Rain"
It's like when I was into Cat Stevens for like 2 weeks...It happy music, but in a sappy kind of way...makes me want to lay in the sun...
Oooh, Cat Stevens. Save him for a rainy day. Wait, is it raining there?
Today I suggest any Mike Flowers Pops because it's good for a smile.
what does this mean? do we suggest music!?!?!?!?! try Band of Horses....or John Vanderslice, or both if you're feeling dangerous, dear Pelt.
love how Winters calls you Sleek and i call you Pelt. hehehe. ;)

bad billy: I rocked Nirvana in your absence. You can blame it on our patchy T1 line.
clash: I can always count on you for great suggestions. The Proclaimers are definitely nerds, and as I mentioned on a Friday Music post a while ago, I appreciate that they actually retain their accents when they sing. Peter Gabriel and Sinead -- two geniuses doing a beautiful song. I'd never seen the video; bonus. Breaking Benjamin -- this is a band I just have not given a chance, and to be honest, I've probably held a bit of a grudge against them because they're played on WCLG, our local crap rock station. I liked this song, though -- these guys are tight -- and I look forward to hearing more. And the wife has awesome taste, throwing out the Clash like that. I loved how the video included the introduction of the band; very cool. Please tell her her suggestions are welcome through you every week.
winters: Hello, mate. It's nice how you often add a dash of blues into my Friday. Both of these songs are on YouTube, and it was great to hear two masters at work. Thanks!
rob: Interesting! I like, but I'm surprised. More country than I expected, given their band name. I was previously unfamiliar with X, so you've once again opened my eyes to a new band.
anon: More blues! Traditional blues at that. As I've admitted before, I know way less about blues than I should, so it may come as no surprise that I am unfamiliar with R.L. Burnside. Was, anyway. This is killer, great suggestion. Thanks!
teoh: I'm glad you're stopping by on Fridays, because you really mix things up. Here we go: Franz -- I dig this song. I'm not as in love with this band as many I know, but they are definitely good and I have two of their albums; Talking Heads -- one of my favorite bands. Great song. I'd never seen the video, and it's great. Subtlety Peter Gabrielish, I thought; KLF -- wow, was this song a hit? It's very familiar to me ... and strange. The woman's accent just throws me for a loop; Recoil -- man, this is awesome! I'm not sure why, the blending older musicians with new sounds just seems to really work out. Cash, Loretta Lynn, Recoil. I'm a fan of this ...; Goldfrapp -- ... this one, not so much. I guess I'm just not a huge fan of straight-up dance music. I'll keep trying, though, so feel free to keep requesting. Thanks!
olive: Folk Friday! I'm going to North Carolina on Sunday, so I listened to a nice live version of "Carolina on My Mind." I couldn't do more than that though because I think the DM was about to vomit -- she hates the man. I've been a Cat Stevens fan since college, and my favorite of his songs is "Father and Son." I found a nice live version of that on Youtube, too.
melissavina: It was a beautiful day. Mike Flowers Pops -- ha! What a riot. I checked out "Wonderwall" and "Light My Fire." This reminds me of the Morgantown Pops Choir that the DM is trying to get me to join.
kristen hovet: Exactly. Much like the movie post you did, at which I failed miserably by suggestion two movies you'd already seen, I have a Friday Music post every week. I listen to and respond to all suggestions.
Band of Horses -- I got into these guys in the last few months, and I love them. They remind me a bit of The Samples ... know them? Tonight I spun "The Funeral." I've been a John Vanderslice since the brilliant Time Travel is Lonely album, back in 2001. Sadly I've lost that album and don't have it on my iPod. Tonight I listened to "Trance Manual." I love this guy and will see him one day. Thanks for the suggestions, I hope to see you next Friday. And I answer to both Sleek and Pelt. ;)
DM and Sleek: Sorry I caused a wave a nausea in your house. I'll do better next time.
olive: I liked it and hope for more folk Fridays in the future.
olives: That's okay. I've always known that Sleek likes to listen to James Taylor from time to time. I don't hold that against him. Or you. Really, that "Goin' to Carolina" song isn't too bad.
Sleek: You join the pops choir, and I'll join the kindergarten music class for adults.
The KLF were the biggest-selling act of the year 1991 - soon after they would turns their backs on music altogether and pursue different kinds of art - most notably the burning of a pounds cash! The vocals are by Tammy Wynette (she of Stand By Your Man fame)... The new Recoil is just as awesome; it's called SubHuman and features thevocals of supreme bluesman Joe Richardson... Goldfrapp - I should have known you wouldn't go for this one. How about Alison Goldfrapp doing the vocal's for Tricky's song Pumpkin instead, then?
I really need to pay attention before I hit the publish button. I meant vocals, of course (sans apostrophe). *sigh*
I'm always paranoid to leave comments on 'send me your music' postings. My partner and I share the same iTunes account which means a hell-of-a-lot of Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand coming up when I hit 'Shuffle'.
I hope to hell that I am able to prevent myself from being sucked into the gay vortex of 'all things Broadway.'
I know it's late but try this song by Sia (Breathe Me)...

It was the final track for the HBO series 'Six Feet Under'... I love it.
Sleekest of Pelts: Your former post must have been a subliminal trigger when I came across the Proclaimers’ CD this week and immediately played it. Love that tune.
I was reluctant about Breaking Benjamin too with all the poser bands out there and no accountability to the trash they are peddling, but they can jam.
The Clash could not have been any cooler walking out of that tunnel!
BB: It’s been a Nirvana kind of day and after my Pearl Jam intoxication last week I’m ready to rip the sleeves off a flannel shirt and head to Seattle with unexplainable angst.
IF: Six Feet Under was genius and I was sorry to see it go.
teoh: I remember all that now, including Tammy Wynette's vocals. I should have known! I even seem to remember the cash-burning thing, I think from a VH1 show or something. But the Tricky song? Now that's just badass. Awesome song.
IF: I really like this too. I've heard some Sia before and will need to check out some more. And I'm sorry to say that I didn't watch Six Feet Under. Sounds like I missed something. Thanks for participating -- it's never too late to comment on a Friday Music post. Maybe you should listen to some of the suggestions on these posts, they could help you stay away from the Broadway stuff!
clash: Now that I think of it, it was our esteemed colleague Matt A who mentioned the Proclaimers as a band who retained their accent.
I just watched on the DVR the special on Harry Smith, great show if you can catch it, the six LP's (or your choice of medium) is high on my list.
The Anthology of American Folk Music is a compilation of eighty-four folk and country music recordings that were released as 78 rpm records in the 1920s and 1930s. The compilation was originally released in 1952 as a collection of six LPs. The collection is famous due to its role as a touchstone for the US folk music revival in the 1950s and 1960s. The anthology was compiled in 1952 by Harry Smith, a bohemian who lived in Berkeley, California in the late 1940s and 1950s.
Damnit. Where have I been? I guess I'll just wait for this Friday to play along =/
I'm liking your new layout and the list of labels for your posts. I need to take a lazy Sunday one of these days to stalk all of your music posts so I can check out everything that has been recommended by you and your readers. I'm needing some new music in a bad way :)
Ooooh, Band of Horses :) Great recommendation! I saw them for the first time when they opened for Modest Mouse this summer. They are stellar. *I need to buy their music asap.
josh: That collection sounds very interesting. I'll have to try to scare it up.
valyna: Thanks for the props on the new layout; I'm digging the three-column format. If you do spend some time checking out music from the threads, let me know what you think! I always hope others will listen to the suggestions and comment on them, but it rarely happens.
