Favorite Quotes

When I was in high school my great aunt Alice gave me a little book of quotes. It was so little that it could fit in my wallet, and because of the following quote, it stayed there for years. I wish I still had that little book, but I'll never forget this William Penn anecdote:

I expect to pass through life but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again. William Penn
No amazing word play here, just simple words to live by.

What quotes do you like?

Different story when it came to sharing a pie I expect judging by the bulging waistcoat with buttons ready to ping off. Old Bill sure 'talked' a good deed but clearly not one for sharing luncheon with the paw.

There was one from W.H.Auden that I really liked. something like:

"if equal affection cannot be, let the more loving one be me".

In my teens, it made perfect sense and I never forgotten it.

The most influential quotes in my life are:

"If you can't keep it in your pants, keep it in your family."

Also:

"If you are not in bed by eleven, might as well go home."

One last line of advice I penned my self:

"Not in MY mouth!"

I love quotes!

In high school we had to pick a quote to put next to our picture senior year. I chose, "You have to be first, best or different"
-Loretta Lynn.

Hattica: Your China Buffet quote is an adapation of R. W. Emerson's; "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

Also, like these:

"Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air…"
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Do not lose your inward peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset."
-Saint France De Sales

Excellent, everyone, thanks for the quotes. The quotes we quote are telling, I think.

rebecca: It's a good one all right, and I consider your John Ruskin quote a fine companion to it.

rob: If Zee had hair like Kevin DuBrown, he wouldn't have to ask anyone to get in the hottub.
