Dictionaraoke? Aww, just what I always wanted. Did you keep the receipt? (That was a joke.) Although, the track is strangely scary in its cyber guise... Contrary to my usual Anglocentric selection, this week I'd like to share some cool tunes by cool Americans:
Aerosmith: Pink - Camp, catchy rock. What's not to like?
Battles: Atlas - This math rock act from New York City favours weird time signatures like 7/8, 11/8 or 13/8. It's dissonant, yet lovely.
Ben Folds Five: Battle Of Who Could Care Less - I love the bit where he says, "This should cheer you up for sure /
See, I've got your old I.D. /
And you're all dressed up like The Cure".
The Dandy Warhols: Scientist - not typical DW material, but it's got a certain je ne sais quoi.
Sir Mixalot: Baby Got Back - back when this kind of music was still innocent, even the risque stuff was fun.
hehehe there was a site called sing it for you or something that did something similar. You wrote something and every word would be sung by a little bit of a song. It was really cool when it worked. (not every word had a song, of course).
He may have been a wife beating piece of shit, but Ike Turner invented rock and roll with the following 1951 single:

Enjoy. And have a great weekdend!
A great commentary on the state of the Nation by James McMurtry: "Try it yourself Mr. CEO, see how far $5.15 an hour will go . . . "
"We Can't Make it Here Anymore"

The late, great Townes Van Zandt. I love the emotion of the dude sitting behind him listening:
"Waitin' Around to Die"

A most talented resident of the Weston, WV asylum:
"True Love Will Find You in the End"

Nothing helps me to litigate like something gangsta, especially with a touch of the Shaolin:

Late again. Next Friday by gosh I will have some real doozies!
teoh: I thought they put a lot of feeling, even soul, into that REO Speedwagon cover. Aerosmith -- I just realized that I really like this song, and the video is off the hook. How natural does that centaur look playing guitar? Can you imagine having one in your band? Madison. Square. Garden; Battles -- Crazy cool. I'm checking out "Tonto" on their MySpace dealio now but I don't think it's as good; Dandy Warhols -- it's like your theme song! Another cool one; Sir Mixalot -- the butt record adapter is hilarious. I just can't listen to this entire song though. Great suggestions, as always. You're an awesome source of music.
devil mood: I'm going to see if I can find that.
rob: I should be flogged for not being familiar with this song. It's awesome and Betty Page was a nice touch.
The DM's listening in tonight, by the way.
anon: I'm loving the Toots, thanks!
clash: The Bravery -- we both like. "Honest Mistake" is like U2 meets Cold Play. I will definitely search out more by this band.
Loving Ben Folds right now.
Life is a garden- dig it!

Oh man, my job is devouring me at the moment. Hang tight, guys -- I'll finish the Friday Music post as soon as possible.
Friday music to me is a 125 two stroke.
Mom
I think toilets should leave his love life out of this blog.
Sleek (and everyone else):
Y'all will enjoy this if you haven't already. A very nice follow-up to the previous post and comments re: In Raibows and Radiohead's "pay what you want" policy.

PS- I forgot how to hyperlink text. Can anyone sned me a quick and easy guide to do this and avoid posting ugly site addresses? Thx.
good interview. i like what he said about how it's all about who writes it first...the rest just cut and paste...luck of the draw...
i think if you edit in html, highlight, and then hit the "link" button, that'll do ya...
Here's how, Zee. I look forward to reading that interview one of these days, when I have a spare minute or two in the evening. That hasn't happened in quite some time, though.
olive: Beatles -- I haven't heard that one in a while!; Tanyas -- that's by far my favorite album by the gals, I expected "Littlest Birds". My friend who turned me on to this band saw them and was very disappointed; Sean Hayes -- I really like this. Who is this guy? This video only has a couple thousand views. He reminds me of a folky, less extreme Jeff Buckley; Living Color -- their first time on Friday Music I believe, great song. Thanks, Olive!
rd: Man, I think this is a first for Ween on Friday music too. This is one of the Ween songs the DM knows best. We're loving it. "Don't believe the florist when he tells you that the roses are free." Classic. Thanks!
zee: The one time you post on Friday and I'm at the peak of my work year and can't respond for days. Sorry! Threebrain: Ha! That's a great choice to follow Ween.
chud: Links and commentary on each song ... love it. I haven't listened to James McMurtry in years, and this song is epic. A proper protest song, no question; Townes -- it's like Friday music just keeps getting better. I've heard tributes to this guy, I've heard about him forever, but I've never been introduced to him like in this video. I'm listening to him all day tomorrow. Awesome; Daniel -- ah, one of our own. My favorite of his songs is "Funeral Girl" -- it used to be a sort of theme song in our office (at least for me); Wu-tang -- that's litigating music if I've ever heard it. I just listened to their new one the other day but I couldn't pay much attention to it. Thanks for the suggestions, I hope to see you here every friday, Chud.
IF: Looks like you're having a smashing time in South America, laden with inexpensive alcohol and celebrity sightings. Fantastic. I think this Elton cover may be the best I've ever heard Ben Folds' voice sound. Have fun!
geto boy: That movie is so funny. There's nothing like an Amish party!
mom: Braaaaaaap!
I'm caught up. Great music, guys, thanks!
