Friday Music

It's Friday. I need music.

I know, I know ... I still haven't finished my comments from last week, and I do believe this is the first time this has ever happened. I will, as always, but I need an extra day or two this week.

But it's not going to stop me from putting up this week's FM post, because I still need music today! Today's topic is music that is somehow related to animals.

Links, please!

The Cardigans I Need Some Fine Wine And You, You Need To Be Nicer - sit!

  9. No link and fashionably late but how about Pink Floyds album Animals?
Great stuff, I promise. The concert video from Roger Waters titled "In the Flesh" has one of the best covers of Dogs...The David Gilmore original has precedent but the keyboard player of Rogers band really did a great job.

  10. Clash has the pick of the litter in my opinion- excellent choices. Plus, I liked TEOH's Cardigans pick. Sounds a bit like Sheryl Crow.

  13. rob: ZZ Top -- hmm, now there's an interesting way to start off a Friday. This is a first for Friday Music, I believe; Nazareth -- wow, I never noticed all the cow bell! I can see a Nazareth vs. Blue Oyster Cult battle abrewin'; Stones -- nice! I took me a while to truly embrace these guys, but I'm a fan nowadays.

geto boy: Cat Stevens -- are you kidding? Over scenes from "The Lorax"? With the brown barbaloots playing about? Man, you really do like me; Ted Nugent -- wait. Maybe you hate me; Bob Segar -- ha! Well played.

fleming: Duran Duran -- dang, I haven't seen this video in a long time. You know, I really didn't like this band much back in the day, but I think they've aged pretty well and I like hearing their stuff now; GnR -- classic rock 'n' roll, now question. This song will never age.

dm: UNKLE -- nice, busting out the UNKLE starring Thom Yorke. I haven't heard this song in ages, but I still love it so; Super Furrys -- one of my favorite silly-dance numbers! What an album.

  14. dm: "Dogs" -- awesome. I need to get this album on vinyl.

matthes: Wow, I never would have guessed. I found a version here. I don't know, man -- maybe I just need to see this band to really get them.

    crusseldrums: Beatles -- nice. I've always thought of this as a bit of a novelty song; They Might Be Giants -- LOVE this song! I saw them do this at Nyabinghi Dance Hall back in the day; Paula Abdul -- how in the hell did you pull this one out? This song had been completely erased from my memory until I spun this. Pretty cool song, actually;

  16. anon: Welcome back! Assuming you're the same Anon who used to frequent Friday Music, that is. Kinks -- ah, a must on an animal-themed week; Busta -- he's very fast. I can understand him pretty well if I pay a lot of attention. The gorilla-suit connection was nicely done; Snoop Dogg -- what a nut! This video is ree-diculous (as my friend Wes would say -- right, Clash?)

clash: It's nice to hear something other than the studio version of this one. This really is a sad song; America -- how is that not Neil Young singing? I've always wondered; Bob -- you worked him in! Nice, Clash. This is one of the most positive songs I've ever heard, and I love it; Sundays -- I love this cover too, though recently I've been partial to The Flying Burrito Brothers' version of this. Damn, I love the Sundays, though; The Cure -- I would really, really like to see these guys live. Really. Nice selection, Clash.

teoh: Goldfrapp -- My only exposure to them has been through you. This is decent, but I like "A & E" much better; Andy Williams -- wow, there's a Friday Music first. It's almost like kitschy Elvis. Like Elvis meets Jim Neighbors; Cardigans -- I agree with Geto Boy, sorta Sheryl Crowish. This girl reminds me of a hotter Kirsten Dunst; The Monkees -- yes! It's all I have to say. Yes!; Moby -- some Moby I really like, some I just don't get at all. This is very nice, and I'd love to be on a bus with somebody putting on a show like the girl does in this video. I really like this. In fact, this might be one of the best Moby songs I've ever heard.

eob: Tom Jones -- can you believe nobody has ever suggested Tom on Friday Music? Leave it to you.... What a completely insane song.

josh: Animals is one of my favorite albums in the world. And I have In the Flesh as well. Great suggestions.

helen mansfield: echo and the bunnymen -- well played, Helen. That is some 'do that cat is running. It's got me almost speechless.

rebecca: Cibo Matto -- okay, now this is impressive. I had no idea I would run into so much insane stuff with an "animals" topic. This is shit-house bonkers, is what it is. I vaguely remember this band, the DM tells me Sean Lennon used to play with them.

  17. mom: The Leningrad Cowboys -- it just doesn't end. It's like an insane asylum up in this joint. Wow.
