I'd love to get some more suggestions for stuff to listen to. Think obscure -- something you like but most people probably don't know. Anything counts -- punk, rock, country, hip hop, whatever. Hook it up!
I think I had talked to you before about Regina Spektor, and I think you said you knew of her. Anyway, that's what I've been listening to this past week. I have her "Begin to Hope" album and it's pretty good.
I watched "The Royal Tennanbaums" again last night (great flick, possible top-10). That movie's soundtrack is a database for good songs. One that brought back old memories was "Judy is a Punk" by The Ramones. Check them out if you haven't and see if you can find that song. If you ever come across the soundtrack for that movie, let me know.
I mentioed it in the previous post, but a little late to the game. Have you checked out Wolfmother? These guys will rock your face off. On second thought, don't check them out. It might be too dangerous for you. No sissy's allowed.
I actually couldn't get their MySpace page to work last time, but it's working now. Wow, I like these guys. They have a little Sabbath going on in this first track.
A little late, but... I am watching "Open Season" with my girl and the soundtrack is by Paul Westerberg. Reminded me of how much I liked the Replacements back in college.
The Replacements are one of those bands that I've wanted to get into for a long time. My friend Danielle burned a CD for me once, but I can't seem to find it. I know some of their music, but I really need to explore them a lot more. Thanks for the great idea -- they'll be my focus next week.
Check out Paula Cole. She was a back-up singer for Peter Gabriel before she hit it. Also, Trip Shakespeare. One of my fav's in college. Great live set. The co-founder was an English major so they fused their sets with poetry in between songs- really involved the crowd. I am rolling the Bottle Rockets right now. Real roots rock, Uncle Tupelo influenced. Check out their album "The Brooklyn Side." I have it if you want to burn it.

ReplyDeleteI have that album too, hoop. I'll kick it now.

ReplyDeleteI used to have that soundtrack, actually. I'll see if I can find it. The Ramones? Nice -- they're next.

ReplyDeleteI like Panic -- I've listened to them a number of times throughout the years. Definitely good stuff.

ReplyDeleteI'm kicking The Ramones today. I forgot how familiar I am with these guys -- I went through a big Ramones phase in college. Great stuff.
