Friday Music

It's Friday. I need music.

It's a hard-core deadline day and the weather is dreary, so I think I'll start off with England's Editors.

Any suggestions on what else I should listen to? As always, links are very much appreciated.

  2. This should be a nice progressive mix to get you rolling into the afternoon.

Mad Season: Wake Up (should still be good while it's mid-morning)

Last of the Mohican's: Promontory (super dramatic, great for digging in on a project)

Moody Blues: Tuesday afternoon (favorite song of the week)

Marshall Tucker Band: Fire on the Mountain (my newest download)

Linkin Park: What I've done (great accomplishment song for d-day)

I just read their biography "Sweat", and it is the BEST book written about rock and roll.

I very rarely hear this marley tune on the radio. Why they chose this awesome tune to knit by, I'll never know!

  9. olives: I remember sleek on our deck playing his guitar and singing "Lakes of Ponchartrain" the night before I gave birth to Julian. I'll always love that song because of that.

  10. Hmm... I don't think our music tastes are very similar. But let me provide you with a little playlist of what I've been listening to recently:

    Freshlyground - Potbelly
The new single from my favourite South African band!

    Client - Drive
    Sexy electronica.

    Dusty Springfield - Spooky
    Retro-yummo.

    Archive - Nothing Else
    Trip-Hop indulgence.

Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill
She scares my just a little.

The Knife - Pass This On
I quite like the music video.

    Dave Gahan - Kingdom
Don't forget Depeche Mode frontman Dave's new single!

Roisin Murphy - Let Me Know
Roisin Murphy makes your disco dreams come true.

  11. It's been a great day of music so far. I'm just getting started on TEOH's suggestions. (TEOH, I'm very open to new stuff, so I'm excited about trying this stuff.)

I'll be back later with a full report on all song suggestions.

  14. olive: Manu Chao -- I've heard that song before -- very catchy, fun listen; Toad -- I'll never forget that car ride, cool song; Afghan Whigs, I love Afghan Whigs and haven't listened to them much since my co-worker moved to Brooklyn. This song took me back and going to listen to them hard-core next week; Beck -- awesome; Be Good Tanyas -- I love this song and like DM said, I like to play it on guitar too. Great list, thanks!

  15. hattica: Mad Season -- I listened to that song and a couple more and it was awesome. Perfect timing; Mohicans -- nice background music; Moody Blues -- you're totally into this song right now. Reminds me of when I was a kid; Marshall Tucker -- I really dug this too and listened to a couple of songs; Linkin Park -- I think I like their heavier stuff better.

fleming: That video cracked me up!

rob: I watched this one. Nuts and cool

  16. valyna: Another killer list from you! GnR -- I listened to "Sweet Child o' Mine," classic guitar solo; Femmes -- I've said before that these guys were my intro to college music, I still know ever inch of this song; Belly -- great, the DM was super stoked to see this one on the list; Madison Ave. -- couldn't get this one to load; Bangles -- I had this one on 45, we've got a history; B-boys -- this song reminds me of our last office; Frenzies -- totally new to me, I'll check out some more stuff; Garbage -- I love this woman and her music; G. Love -- what a jam! Thanks, Valyna!

  17. teoh: Freshlyground -- they start off on the right foot with me by being named after coffee, then they follow it with a very neat song. The girl's got a really interesting tone to her voice, and I like the way she annunciates her words. Harmonica is a nice touch and very at home in this song. I like the colors in the video too; Client -- your description says it best; Dusty -- a classic. I love her voice. My wife couldn't get past the fact that she was sitting in that weird box, but I liked that part; Kate -- I know Kate but not this song, reminds me of Madonna; The Knife -- Not bad, the steel drums made a lot of sense in that one; Dave -- Gotta admit I'm not much of a Depeche Mode fan, but this song's pretty cool; Roisin -- this girl's hot. Goofy outfit and strange dance moves pulled off with complete confidence? Hot. Where's that diner? Thanks, Teoh, I really dug this change of pace.
